Dear Ravyn,
I do not have a date for Valentine's Day. Everyone I know has something planned with their boyfriend or girlfriend. What can I do to not feel so down that day?
Sincerely,
Dateless Girl

Dear Dateless,
Not having a date on Valentine's in today's hyper-consumer oriented world can actually be a relief. Only a couple of years ago me and two relatives went to dine at a local Chili's. We quickly found out exactly how crowded a calendar date can make a popular eating destination. Some close friends of mine really dislike Valentine's Day mainly because they find themselves in the same perceived predicament you do. To you and them I say make the most of that day even if you do not have a date. I'd just advise that you avoid typical lovebird haunts if you feel resentment at not having a date.
However, remember that you have a whole world out there that may feel as down on that day as you do and work off of that. Volunteer at a local hospital or even become a blood donor. Doing something good for someone else, even a stranger or someone you may never even meet will make you feel a lot better about yourself and your place in the world.
