An international step to success

There are several universities around the state with different activities, student life, housing and financial aid for international students. It is always an alternative for foreigners who really want to be successful outside from their native countries.
The International Student University Transfer Fair & Expo took place at San Jacinto College, South Campus; where over nine Universities representatives from around the state were attending, providing information about F-1 visa, transfer admissions, international scholarships, and academic programs, among other things. Among the Universities that visited the campus were University of North Texas, University of Houston-Victoria, Houston Baptist, University St. Thomas and Gran Canyon University among others. Also, students were informed about health insurance plans and travel agency.
The Transfer Fair & Expo also included the participation of the International Student Inc. The ISI was talking with students and providing information about the "Friendship Partner Program." This program aims to help international students feel more comfortable during their residence in the United States. Through the program, foreign students can make new friends, get help with conversational English, learn more about American culture, visit Texas homes and meet Texas families. Over 100 international students from the three different campuses attended this event.
"It is very important to them be part of these events because here the students can find answers to their academic concerns and learn more about all the stuff that involve international lives," said Dr. Nancy Hashemi, International Counselor at the South Campus.
Houng Ha, international student from Vietnam said: "I think this Expo it is OK. I got the information that I needed. I have been in San Jacinto for almost two years and I would like to transfer the next summer and start with my Bachelor Degree in Accounting."
Thania Garza, international student from Mexico said: " I think this kind of events are very good for international students. It is much easier to speak face-to-face with the international advisors and ask them about all the requirements for the University transfer."
After the Expo, the international students enjoyed a healthy lunch courtesy of the organizers, and also could meet other students and share some experiences. All the advisors were very friendly with the students and gave them all the information they needed.
The International Student University Transfer Fair & Expo was a successful event, where students from different nationalities and cultures could learn more about how to face their academic future in America.
