Attend any of Mrs. Diana Gray's Karate classes on any given day and you will see Phu Nguyen helping assist new students interested in the art of Karate. He loves to help others with his knowledge of Karate thus helps assist the classes. He attends as often as he can and even attends evening Karate classes around the community when his very busy schedule allows. His passions include everything from cooking, karate, and hanging out with the family.

Phu works at the family grocery store Three Amigos part time while going to school. He loves to socialize with new people each day and learn about different cultures including his own, Vietnamese.

Phu finds his family one to be one of the most important aspects of his life, he seeks their opinions and looks to them for advice on a daily basis.

"I am always asking my mom and dad for advice; they help me with everything from homework to questions on girls. I love spending as much time as possible with them and enjoy all the great things we have done," said Phu.

Phu has been doing forms of martial arts for over sixteen years, and has enjoyed every minute, from the grueling workouts to winning first place trophies. He watched traditional martial arts in Vietnam enjoyed, learning all about the culture and history of it.

"When I saw traditional martial arts in Vietnam, I had so much fun. It was so neat to see the history in person. I got to see people make it look almost as if they were flying in the air. That motivated me to push myself even harder to do the best of my ability. I love getting to spar people on my own level. The intensity of the fights are amazing, from getting that perfect hit in to getting hit -- I enjoy the constant action. I also love to assist in teaching other students how to spar. It is so neat to see the excitement on new people's faces when they finally get that kick down, or finally block the one spot they can never block correctly." Phu said.

Phu is a sophomore at San Jac and is working diligently to be successful in life. Phu wants to become a police officer and one day hopefully own his own restaurant.

"I love cooking for my family and friends. I always want to cook for people; it is awesome to make a new dish and see everyone like it, or to make a new dish and no one likes it, and continually work until you get it right." Phu said.

Being an officer is something that also interests Phu; he has a passion for justice.

"I want to be an officer, because I want to make a difference. I want to help people and I believe I can if I become an officer. I believe I will help change people's lives." Phu said.

This San Jac student has accomplished many things, and has many things he is hoping to accomplish. He looks forward to being an officer one day, and making his parents proud. He also looks forward to one day owning his own restaurant, and all the great fun he will have in achieving his dreams.

"I am just taking life one day at a time trying to lead myself into the directions I have great passions for. So far I think I am being pretty successful." Phu said.
