As May approaches, college students across the nation accomplish a goal in their lives by receiving their diplomas.

Graduation will be held at the Pasadena Conference Center at 7 p.m. May 8 for Central campus, and at 10 a.m. May 9 for the South campus. Guest speaker will be Chancellor Bill Lindemenn for both campus ceremonies. Lindemann retires this May as chancellor after 12 years with the College.

North will be held May 16 at the North Shore High School Auditorium and is separated into two graduation ceremonies, one at 9 a.m. for the associate of arts in biology, biotechnology, business administration, computer science, criminal justice and general studies majors last names Arredondo-Lezama. The other ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. for the associate of arts in behavioral science, child development, drama, education and general studies majors with last names Lugo-Yates. At press time speakers for North's graduation ceremonies were un-decided.

"Traditionally we have been holding it at the Pasadena Convention Center for years," Kevin McKisson, dean of enrollment at Central campus, said. "The only time we did not use the building was last fall when Hurricane Ike damages prevented the ceremony from taking place at the Pasadena Convention Center."

More than 1800 students are set to graduate in the district, but a much smaller number will participate in the ceremony.

"It will make it a relatively small ceremony compared to last year's number of students walking," McKisson said. "However the total overall number of students that are graduating that are not walking has stayed relatively the same the last three years."

Whether students are walking or not, they may purchase a diploma and diploma cover for $10.

"It's a really nice set up for $10 the decorative diploma and case are perfect for displays," Amy Ammerman, dean of enrollment at North, said.

There will be a graduation ceremony for students in the fall for the students who could not make the spring graduation. McKisson hopes the numbers increase now with the board giving more funding to the enrollment services upon completion of graduation.

"We are trying everything we can to keep students at San Jacinto until they graduate with an associate's whether they walk or not," McKisson said.

Plans to keep students enrolled until graduation include a retention plan which will keep students informed and motivated on course curriculum.
