Army ROTC shows off strength

Tour offers awareness

"An experience like no other" deftly defines the Strength in Action Tour that will hit San Jacinto Central this week.

The members of Patriots and Army ROTC will demonstrate the multi-faceted strength the program stands for and invites students to take part.

"This is a recruiting opportunity, but for this campus it's more about raising awareness for the ROTC program and is set to correspond with the Veteran's Resource Fair being held the seventh," CPT Richard Selvera, enrollment officer at University of Houston Army ROTC, said.

Strength in Action, a cross-country event which spans numerous campuses and arrives at San Jacinto, April 8, highlights the distinctive traits of the U.S. Army that make up the elements the tour zeroes in on. Physical prowess, tactical intelligence and interpersonal relations are key elements of the message the tour is intended to display.

However, the tour will focus on student participation more than anything with hopes the students will experience the strength the Army represents, not simply witness it.

The mobile station, Strength in Action Zone, will be set up from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in parking lot one.

Consisting of various events that highlight the separate aspects of strength that make up the Army, the station brings each experience to the campus. From Strength of Body to Strength of Technology to Strength of Team, these are just a few of the activities that students can experience at the tour.

Each activity focuses on a single facet of Army strength, with most also having a competitive element involved to enhance the experience.

Strength of Body is, as one would expect, a competition of physical fitness so students may see how they contend against other participants, including actual soldiers and the Army standard.

In addition to standard exercises, however, will be a rock climb tower which will test physical strength in a more entertaining method rather than push-ups or sit-ups. Participants can also receive workout routines, so they may achieve fitness goals they have set up.
